Busy Weekend

IMG_4266

IMG_4250IMG_4254 IMG_4256IMG_4260

Ah such a busy weekend!!! Friends visiting in the afternoon and then met with family for the whole evening, weekends has become more and more precious to me these days, wonder does it has anything to do with age. :)

Anyway.

Finally I’ve decided on this. I am determined that the shape of my Buttoned Jewelry need more solid packaging than my usual packaging due to it’s knotted nature, so I got them this in the end – a reusable tiny transparent casing. Pretty practical little thing, definitely worthwhile for keepsake, and then I’ve adorned it with the Washi Paper I’ve bought from Ryan previously (randomly selected specially for me!), now the casing and the jewelry in it are equally lovely!

The casing is light, so I doubt it would incur any additional shipping cost, anyway we’ll see. It’s now ready to be shipped and I hope the new owner (you know who you are! *wink*) would love this as much as I do!

Technique: Braided Cross Tutorial

Hehe, Crosses goes multiply!!! Each time I make a braided cross I’d found a way to improve the knotting and the composition somehow, which is a good thing to me!

Off topic:

Today is 端午節 (Duan Wu Festival, aka Dumplings Festival) in Chinese calendar, as usual Mum was busy making 粽子 and I’ve been having that for lunch for few days now. :) Nice stuff, I do know how to wrap them up, Mum taught me few years ago, but I still don’t know what’s the recipe:

ZHU Knotted Hoops Tutorial

Moana Hoops Earrings Tutorial by Erin

Question:

“Can it be made using just plain wire, and not coiled wire? The coiled wire makes it more feminine in my opinion...and would be great for a lady, but for a man, I'd prefer regular plain wire.”

Answer:

“Coiled wires are more versatile for design as such. You could, however, try this design with plain wires but it has to be 26ga or 24ga, nothing thinner else you won't be able to see the knots...”

So…

Today I gave it a try of the mentioned answer just to proof the concept. A returning customer of mine (thank you!) dropped me a convo at Etsy requesting for a pair of Hoops Earrings. “Do whatever you want.”, she added. Don’t you just like a request like this? Get to close a deal yet able to make something totally your way? :)

So here’s the Hoops Earrings. She always like her stuff blings, so I attached 3 CZ Diamond cut stones to the hoops, utilizing the same knotting introduced in Braided Cross Tutorial without coiling the wires, and thankfully it turned out to be neat too! Hope she will like it, and hope you would like it too!

Enjoy your Sunday!

Rosabella and it’s tips

image

Click on the picture to go to the above webpage.
A customer posted a question for this tutorial and I thought I’d share some tips over here (spread too thin I am, but definitely updating JL site soon about these tips).

Question:
“Really have tried with this one. Step by step the first two pages of instructions just don't seem to follow with what I have done.....pity as it is quite lovely...any help would be appreciated”
Tips:
  1. When the tutorial arrives, remember to read through it once or more times FIRST to understand the whole process, best if you could visualize and practice it in your mind. (Trust me this works, I studied Perri’s Celtic Braid tutorial for 2 hours and then go to bed, and practice it in my mind in the next whole day. I was as though going for an exam!)
  2. Orient your tools and wires exactly like how I’ve positioned them in the tutorial.
  3. Accidentally found workaround: There's a little trick I've discovered when I sprained my wrist awhile ago. My wrist were too weak and my fingers could not hold on the wires. But I had to create a Rosabella in a particular way for a proof of concept so that I could finally move on. So I used a nylon pliers to clip at the petals before pulling wires through the spaces to form another petal (you will understand what I am trying to say when you try out the tutorial), so if you are having hard time to hold the petals with fingers you might want to consider that.
Head up:
Rosabella design looked simple – but it is actually not. Any experienced wire jewelry maker knew it takes too much to make something looked simple, Rosabella is a typical example for case as such and IMHO, the more experiences you have with wires, the more you need to forget. I forget my own designs all the time. I had to revisit my own tutorial(s) every single time when I received an order for those designs. Knotting with wires were never easy, I have never able to write a “simple” tutorial for any knotted designs, that is actually one of my vision for this year and I do hope I would achieve that soon. So please bear with me for the time being, don’t be discouraged, don’t give up too soon. May be you can try to forget everything you have learned about wire jewelry, forget about what I have taught you in other tutorials too every time you start a new project, and try this one out slowly as though you’re learning to make jewelry with wires for the very first time.

Chewie. I like him already.

photo

Did I mentioned that Chewie is almost one year old now? And he still like to chew – just anything and everything. He annoys me all the time, I often think he should be a cat (sorry cat-lovers), cause he haven’t behaved like a dog. He like to block my way, just so that I would spend some time to interact with him (get outta my way!), and he lay flat in-front of me so that I can’t get into the house.

He is annoying.

But something happened just now and it changed me. I think I like him now. I need to pen this down before I forgets. I forget things too soon too easily these days.

Work had been busy and I had to stay in the office til midnight. So today is just like any other day that I would stayed back for a deadline. When I finally left the office heading home, got off the car and get to the door, I thought I heard some foot steps, turned around, I saw Chewie. he was clearly half asleep whilst walking towards me, and then he stopped and looked at me with his half-opened eyes.. he must have been sleeping! And yet he would still come to me even though he is often being ignored (by me)….

So Instead of unlocking the door to get into the house I turned around and go towards him, petted him for a minute (sorry, but I can only afford one minute, I will do it better next time!). For the first time I said goodnight to him. And then he stayed where he was until I got into the house and shut the door. I looked out the window and saw him turned around, slowly walk back to his comfy sleeping zone.

And this whole thing happened in an absolute silence.

P/S: He isn’t caged. He has the whole garden to run around – that’s just a little fence between the garden and the walk way to the house. I think he still thought he is tiny that’s why he always try to tuck his head through the gap between the fence, and forever get stuck.

Goodnight!

Just a little something…

preview

I always end my E-mail with “would you mind telling me how you found me…”

And often I’d get a reply from customer. Here’s a reply from a customer that got the $25 for Any Three Tutorials Package from me, that got me into thinking:

“ Hi Corra-  thanks very much for the quick file transfer-- I can't wait to try each tutorial! I found you on Etsy, originally through a search for *censored*, and when I discovered your Pip (PIPA) Earrings I took a look at the other items in your shop and discovered the tutorials.  I love, love, love to learn new techniques, and wire work is one of my favorites.

Although I have not yet followed the tutorials step by step, I did read through them and they seem very well written and easy to follow.  The large pictures are terrific for me (I am a visual learner), and I do appreciate your offer to assist if I have any trouble.

Enjoy your week-  Colette
Regards- Colette P“

Now you know why I stood firm not changing my tutorials format. :)

Anyway, have a great Thursday will ya?

Doric Column Bead By Perri Jackson

Description by Perri Jackson
The famous CoCo Chanel said it:

"You can't have enough basic little beads and the skills required for making them."

This tutorial contains wire handling how-tos, professional finishing tips, 65 photos, and 25pgs of detailed and comprehensive instructions for the basic bead AND THE VARIATIONS!!!!!!

All with a dash of humor for seasoning, and written so that the intermediate student is challenged and expands their skill set while creating this project. But more advanced folks might pick up a thing or two as well. :^))

The PDF tutorial(1.6M) will be sent within 24 hours(usually MUCH sooner, but I sleep once in a while!) to the address listed in your paypal profile after receiving confirmation of your Paypal payment, so please be sure your profile is up to date. Further details can be found in my Etsy Profile.
